Manuscripts submitted to Sustainable Biomaterials & Bioengineering (SBME) must be written in clear, concise, and scientifically rigorous English. Submissions should present original work that has not been previously published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere and must align with the journal’s scope and editorial standards.

All manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word (.docx) format using:
- Times New Roman, 12-point font
- Double line spacing
- Standard 2.5 cm margins
- Consecutive page numbering
- Continuous line numbering where possible
Authors are expected to prepare manuscripts with sufficient methodological detail to permit reproducibility and independent scientific evaluation. Excessive repetition, unsupported claims, promotional language, and non-scientific terminology should be avoided.
Scientific terminology, nomenclature, and units must conform to internationally accepted conventions.
- SI units should be used throughout.
- Abbreviations must be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.
- Gene nomenclature should be italicised (e.g., TP53, EGFR).
- Protein names should appear in roman type.
- Statistical analyses should include sample sizes, measures of variance, confidence intervals, and exact p-values where applicable.
SBME operates a fully double-blind peer review process. Authors must therefore submit:
- A blinded manuscript containing no author-identifying information.
- A separate title page containing:
- Full author names
- Institutional affiliations
- Corresponding author details
- Email addresses
- ORCID iDs for all authors
The journal strongly encourages all authors to register for an ORCID iD to support accurate scholarly attribution and integration with international publishing systems.
Abstracts should provide a concise and accurate summary of the study and must be understandable independently of the full manuscript.
Abstract limits are as follows:
- Research Articles: up to 300 words
- Review Articles: up to 350 words
- Short Communications: up to 150 words
Authors must provide 4–8 keywords relevant to the scientific focus of the manuscript.
Figures must be submitted as publication-quality files:
- Minimum 300 DPI for photographic images
- Minimum 600 DPI for line art and schematics
Accepted formats include TIFF, JPEG, PNG, and EPS.
All figures and tables must:
- Be cited sequentially within the manuscript text
- Include concise and descriptive legends
- Be interpretable independently of the main text
Microscopy and histopathological images should include scale bars, staining methods, and magnification details where appropriate.
References must follow the Vancouver citation style and be numbered consecutively according to order of appearance within the text. DOI identifiers should be included wherever available.
Authors are encouraged to adhere to internationally recognised reporting guidelines appropriate to their study design, including PRISMA, CONSORT, STROBE, CARE, and ARRIVE where applicable.
Research involving human participants, animals, biological materials, or sensitive datasets must comply with institutional and internationally accepted ethical standards. Manuscripts must include relevant ethics approval information, informed consent statements, clinical trial registration details where applicable, funding disclosures, conflict of interest declarations, and data availability statements.
All submissions undergo plagiarism and similarity screening prior to peer review. The journal maintains a strict policy against plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, and other forms of scientific misconduct in accordance with the principles established by COPE, ICMJE, DOAJ, and WAME.
The use of artificial intelligence or generative language tools in manuscript preparation must be transparently disclosed within the manuscript. Artificial intelligence tools may not be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, integrity, and scientific validity of submitted work.
