Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

The Middle Eastern and North African Journal of Dentistry & Oral Sciences (MENA-JDOS)


1. Submission Requirements

Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format via the journal’s online submission system. Only original, unpublished work not under consideration elsewhere will be accepted.


2. General Formatting

  • Page Setup: A4 size, 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point.

  • Spacing: Double-spaced throughout the manuscript.

  • Page Numbering: All pages must be numbered consecutively, starting with the title page.

  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English.


3. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

a. Title Page

  • Title of the manuscript (concise and informative; no abbreviations or formulae).

  • Full names and affiliations of all authors.

  • Indicate corresponding author with full contact details (email and postal address).

  • Running title (maximum 50 characters).

b. Abstract

  • A concise, factual summary of the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions.

  • Do not include references, abbreviations, or non-standard terms.

  • Word limit depends on article type (see Section 5).

c. Keywords

  • Provide 3–6 keywords immediately after the abstract.

  • Use British English spelling and avoid broad or plural terms.

d. Main Text

  • Organize as follows: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.

  • Use subheadings where appropriate.

e. Acknowledgments

  • Include details of any funding, institutional support, or individuals who contributed but do not meet authorship criteria.

f. References

  • Follow APA 7th edition formatting.

  • Include DOIs where available.

  • Ensure in-text citations match the reference list.

g. Tables and Figures

  • Include all tables and figures at the end of the manuscript, each on a separate page.

  • Provide clear titles and legends.

  • Indicate approximate placement in the main text (e.g., [Insert Table 1 here]).

5. Graphical Abstract (Optional)

Authors are encouraged to submit a graphical abstract summarizing the main findings of the article in a single visual. This should be uploaded as a separate high-resolution file (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF, 300 DPI).


6. Ethical Considerations

  • Research involving human participants must include a statement confirming ethical approval and informed consent.

  • Studies involving animals must comply with institutional and national ethical guidelines.

  • Clinical trials must be registered, and registration numbers should be included in the manuscript.


7. Units and Terminology

  • Use the International System of Units (SI).

  • Non-SI units should be accompanied by SI equivalents.

  • Define all abbreviations at first mention and avoid excessive use.


8. Statistical Reporting

  • Clearly describe statistical methods.

  • Report exact p-values and 95% confidence intervals.

  • Indicate software used for analysis.


9. Appendices

  • Label appendices as A, B, etc.

  • Number equations, tables, and figures in the appendices separately (e.g., Eq. A.1, Table A.1).


10. Footnotes

  • Use sparingly.

  • Number footnotes consecutively.

  • Do not include footnotes in the reference list.


11. Submission Checklist for Authors

Before submitting, ensure:

  • The manuscript follows the required structure and format.

  • All authors and affiliations are listed correctly.

  • Ethical statements and funding disclosures are included.

  • References follow APA 7th edition style with DOIs where applicable.

  • Tables and figures are properly labeled and uploaded.
