The Middle Eastern and North African Journal of Dentistry & Oral Sciences (MENA-JDOS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal publishing high-quality research in all fields of dentistry and oral health sciences. The journal is committed to upholding international editorial standards to ensure scientific rigor, clinical relevance, and global accessibility.


1. General Formatting

  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) only.

  • Page Layout: A4 size, 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins.

  • Font & Spacing: Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced, justified.

  • Numbering: Number all pages consecutively starting with the title page.


2. Manuscript Structure

A. Title Page

  • Title: concise and informative.

  • Author names, institutional affiliations, country.

  • Corresponding author details (email, ORCID if available).

  • Running title: max 50 characters.

B. Abstract

  • Word limit: 250 words (150 for short communications).

  • Structured format: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion.

  • No references or uncommon abbreviations.

C. Keywords

  • 3–6 keywords (MeSH terms recommended).

D. Main Text

  • Introduction – Background, rationale, and objectives.

  • Methods – Study design, participants, interventions, instruments, and statistical analysis. For clinical research, include ethical approval and informed consent.

  • Results – Present findings with appropriate tables and figures.

  • Discussion – Interpretation, comparison with existing literature, limitations, and clinical implications.

  • Conclusion – Concise summary of findings.

E. Acknowledgments – Recognize contributors who do not meet authorship criteria.
F. Funding – Provide details of financial support.
G. References – APA 7th Edition; include DOIs where available.
H. Tables & Figures – At the end of the manuscript, each with captions and in-text citations. Figures should be high-resolution (≥300 dpi).


3. Types of Submissions

  • Original Research: 3,000 words, 250-word abstract, up to 40 references, max 6 tables/figures.

  • Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses: 3,500 words, 300-word abstract, up to 50 references, follow PRISMA.

  • Review Articles: 3,500 words, 300-word abstract, up to 50 references.

  • Case Reports / Short Communications: 1,000 words, 150-word abstract, up to 15 references, max 3 figures/tables.

  • Technical Notes: 750 words, up to 10 references, max 4 figures/tables.

  • Letters to the Editor: 500 words, up to 5 references, max 2 figures/tables.


4. Ethical Standards

  • Compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki for human studies.

  • IRB/Ethics Committee approval required for clinical research.

  • Informed consent for patient participation or identifiable data.

  • Clinical trials must be registered in a recognized registry (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov).


5. Reporting & Statistical Standards

  • Report statistical methods with clarity (p-values, CI, effect sizes).

  • For clinical trials: comply with CONSORT.

  • For systematic reviews: comply with PRISMA.

  • For case reports: comply with CARE guidelines.


6. Language & Style

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English.

  • British English spelling is preferred.

  • Define all abbreviations at first mention.


7. Submission Checklist

Before submitting, ensure that:

  • Manuscript follows formatting and word limits.

  • Abstract and keywords meet requirements.

  • References are formatted in APA 7th Edition style.

  • Figures/tables are labeled and cited in the text.

  • Ethical approvals and informed consent statements are included.
