Peer Review Process

The Middle Eastern and North African Journal of Dentistry & Oral Sciences (MENA-JDOS)

The Middle Eastern and North African Journal of Dentistry & Oral Sciences (MENA-JDOS) employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure fairness, objectivity, and the highest standards of scientific integrity. Neither authors nor reviewers are aware of each other’s identities during review.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

  • All submissions are first assessed by the Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor.

  • Manuscripts are evaluated for originality, quality, compliance with journal scope, and adherence to ethical guidelines.

  • Submissions that do not meet basic requirements may be desk rejected without external review.

2. External Peer Review

  • Manuscripts passing the initial screening are sent to at least two independent expert reviewers in dentistry, oral sciences, or related fields.

  • Reviewers assess manuscripts based on:

    • Originality & Novelty

    • Methodological Rigor & Reproducibility

    • Ethical Compliance (IRB approval, informed consent, patient privacy)

    • Clarity & Accuracy of Reporting

    • Clinical Relevance & Impact

3. Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Provide objective, constructive, and detailed feedback.

  • Suggest improvements to enhance scientific quality and clarity.

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest.

  • Maintain confidentiality of the manuscript and review process.

4. Review Outcomes

Based on reviewers’ recommendations, the editorial decision may be:

  • Accept – Publishable as submitted or with minor revisions.

  • Minor Revisions – Targeted improvements required before acceptance.

  • Major Revisions – Substantial rework required, followed by re-review.

  • Reject – Manuscript unsuitable for publication.

5. Editorial Decision

  • Final decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief, taking into account reviewers’ reports and the overall contribution of the manuscript.

  • In cases of conflicting reviews, an additional independent reviewer may be invited.

6. Post-Acceptance

  • Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading before publication.

  • Articles are published online first, assigned a DOI, and archived for permanent accessibility.

This structured review process ensures that MENA-JDOS maintains scientific rigor, ethical responsibility, and clinical relevance in all published articles.
