The Journal of AI in Clinical Innovation (JAICI) values the critical role of peer reviewers in maintaining scientific quality, rigor, and credibility. These guidelines outline expectations for reviewers to ensure fairness, transparency, and constructive feedback.

1. Invitation to Review

  • Review invitations include the manuscript title, abstract, and key details.

  • Reviewers should accept or decline within 3 days.

  • If declining, suggesting qualified alternatives is encouraged.

2. Timelines

  • Reviews should be completed within two weeks of acceptance.

  • Extensions may be granted if the reviewer notifies the editorial office promptly.

3. Confidentiality

  • Manuscripts and review content are strictly confidential.

  • Content must not be shared, copied, or discussed without editorial approval.

4. Ethical Standards

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest before accepting.

  • Maintain objectivity and fairness throughout the review.

  • Report suspected issues such as plagiarism, data fabrication, unethical AI use, or patient privacy concerns.

5. Review Criteria

Reviewers are asked to assess manuscripts on:

  • Originality & Innovation – Novel contributions to AI and clinical practice.

  • Significance & Impact – Relevance to healthcare, dentistry, and clinical innovation.

  • Methodological Rigor – Appropriateness of study design, AI model reporting, datasets, and statistics.

  • Clarity & Structure – Organization, language, figures, and tables.

  • Ethical & Regulatory Compliance – IRB approval, informed consent, and data privacy compliance.

6. Structure of the Review

A high-quality review should include:

  1. Summary – A concise overview of the study.

  2. Strengths – Key innovative aspects and contributions.

  3. Weaknesses – Gaps, limitations, or areas needing improvement.

  4. Recommendations – Actionable suggestions to improve the manuscript.

7. Reviewer Recommendations

Reviewers may recommend:

  • Accept – Ready for publication.

  • Minor Revisions – Requires small adjustments.

  • Major Revisions – Substantial rework needed.

  • Reject – Unsuitable for publication in JAICI.

8. Confidential Comments to Editors

  • Reviewers may provide confidential notes to the editorial team regarding ethical concerns, misconduct, or sensitive AI-related issues.

9. Recognition of Reviewers

  • JAICI acknowledges the contributions of reviewers annually through certificates, awards, and potential editorial board invitations.

  • Review contributions may be verified through Publons, ORCID, or Crossref Reviewer Recognition.
