Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automated Tools Policy

The International Journal of Comprehensive Health, Medicine & Dentistry (IJCHMD) recognizes the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI) and automated tools, including generative AI and large language models (LLMs), in research and scholarly communication.

The journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of such technologies, in alignment with the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA).

1. Use of AI by Authors

Disclosure

Authors are expected to clearly disclose any use of generative AI or automated tools in the preparation of their manuscript, where such tools have contributed beyond basic language editing, formatting, or grammar correction.

Author Responsibility

Authors retain full responsibility for:

  • The accuracy, validity, and originality of their work

  • Verifying all outputs generated using AI tools

  • Ensuring that all content complies with ethical and scholarly standards

The use of AI does not replace or diminish author accountability.

Authorship and Citation

  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors

  • AI-generated content must not be cited as a primary scholarly source

2. Use of AI by Peer Reviewers and Editors

Peer reviewers and editors are expected to maintain strict confidentiality, objectivity, and academic integrity.

Peer reviewers and editors should not use generative AI tools to generate or substantially influence their assessments, as this may compromise confidentiality, accuracy, and the integrity of the peer-review process.

Limited use of AI for language refinement may be acceptable, provided that:

  • No confidential manuscript content is uploaded or exposed

  • The integrity and independence of the review are preserved

3. Use of Automated Tools by the Journal

IJCHMD may utilize automated tools to support editorial and operational processes, including:

  • Plagiarism and similarity detection

  • Workflow and manuscript management systems

All automated processes are conducted under strict human oversight. Editorial staff verify all outputs generated by such tools, including the detection of:

  • Text similarity and potential plagiarism

  • Image or figure manipulation

  • Undeclared use of generative AI

  • Automated reviewer suggestions

The journal ensures that any automated tools used are appropriately evaluated prior to implementation and applied in accordance with best practices in scholarly publishing.

4. Transparency

IJCHMD promotes full transparency in the use of artificial intelligence and automated tools. The journal reserves the right to request clarification or additional disclosures from authors where necessary.

5. Policy Compliance

Any concerns related to the inappropriate or undisclosed use of AI or automated tools will be handled in accordance with the journal’s ethical policies and internationally recognized publishing standards.
